Epsilon Eta Installed in Alabama
Delta Omicron is proud to announce the installation of Epsilon Eta Chapter at Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama on April 21, 2007. Sixteen new Delta Omicron members were initiated during the morning. They included Kolawole Aremu, Amber Harmon, Brandy Todd, Maria Sullivan, Byron Smith, Tiawanna Roshell, Lena Randall, Cassie Porterfield, Kendiell Pettway, Gerald Parrish, Jonathan Moten, Kamekia Humphrey, Rahsaan Doctor, Yolanda Cook, Juan Beane, Lauren Anthony. Chair of Fine Arts and Music at Talladega College and alumna of Omicron Sigma Chapter, Dr. Lindy G. McLeod, will serve as Epsilon Eta Chapter Adviser and Faculty Sponsor.
International President Jonny Ramsey and Iota Province President Laura Thuirer conducted the ceremonial installation activities. They were assisted by Past Iota Province President Dr. Claire Keel, and by eight members of Omicron Gamma Chapter of Samford University during the new member initiation. Omicron Gamma President Emily Parker and Province President Laura Thuirer conducted the officer installation ceremony that followed the initiation. The two chapters enjoyed fellowship following the morning activities, getting to know one another and share chapter activity ideas.
The Installation Musicale occurred in the afternoon at Deforest Chapel. The program featured a medley of Mo’Town Favorites, a four-part acappella performance of Moses Hogan’s Ride on King Jesus, and four-part harmonizations of “The Prayer of Delta Omicron” and “The Keynote.” The program closed with the singing of the Talladega Alma Mater “Dear Old Talladega.” The sixteen members of Epsilon Eta are all members of the forty-member Talladega Choir which has toured nationally throughout the East under the direction of Dr. McLeod. During the Musicale, Dr. Erline Patrick, Executive Assistant to the Talladega College President, was inducted as a Chapter Patroness in recognition of her support for the choir and fine arts programs at Talladega. A reception in Andrews Hall followed the concert.
Historic Talladega College was founded in 1867 and is the oldest historical black college in Alabama. The college is nationally recognized for its outstanding undergraduate studies in science and the humanities.
